EMS Clawson Codes
The Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) is designed to improve the efficiency of emergency medial service (EMS). There are three elements that are critical to patient outcomes, time, distance, and the level of care. Every medical emergency that goes through 911 has a protocol asked by the operator. What is the problem, patient’s age, are they conscious and alert, has breathing been verified. Once these questions have been addressed a flip chart is used to determine the response code and assignment. The MPDS codes are made up of a number followed by a letter and other number. The first number denotes the type of incident. The letter gives the degree of seriousness to the incident A being least and E being the most life threatening. The last number gives more information about the incident.

Suffolk County AMPDS Dispatch Protocols The following are the AMPDS dispatch protocols, which are used when dispatching ambulences on the county frequency 155.280. When MEDCOM dispatches an ambulance they use this system to let the crew know the nature of the emergency. For example, a patient with breathing problems and cardiac history would be dispatched as a "6 charlie 3 response" or a car accident with ejection would be a "29 delta 5 response". The response levels are Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo with Alpha being the lowest priority and Echo being the highest. An Omega response is a referral.
