On a feature basis, this is a pro-96 killer. The trouble is Uniden never
really made as good of a radio for the sake of radio product as GRE.
[Ability to monitor weak signals, freedom from intermod, etc.] The 396
is quite small, and generally the smaller the radio, the worse the
performance. Filters and such need space.
My Pro-96 easily outperforms my bc245 on 800 Mhz. That is, the uniden
doesn't even break squelch on signals that the pro-96 can pick up.
However, on federal band, I've heard digital signals on my Yupi mVT7100
that the Pro-96 can't get cleanly. [Of course, monitoring digital on the
MVT7100 is kind of useless.] As more digital functions are added to
radios, I suspect the radio for the sake of radio quality will suffer,
so hang onto your favorite non-digital scanner.
