A coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 10 am this morning to 6 PM EST this afternoon.
A strong east to northeast flow will produce tidal departures of 2 1/2 to 3 feet above normal on the South Shore back bays during the times of high tide on Sunday... producing widespread minor to locally moderate coastal flooding.
Tidal departures of 3 to 4 feet above normal are expected on the western Long Island Sound during the times of high tide on Sunday afternoon... producing widespread minor to locally moderate coastal flooding.
A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Wind Advisory... which is in effect until 11 PM EST this evening.
East to northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph can be expected into early this afternoon. Winds may briefly lessen during the mid to late afternoon as the low moves overhead. However... once the system lifts northeast of the area... winds will once again strengthen to similar speeds... first from the southwest and then to the west.
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
Special Weather Statement Statement as of 5:39 am EST on December 16, 2007
Sleet with pockets of freezing rain overnight has made for icy conditions across the area roadways. Periods of sleet mixing with rain will continue across much of the tri-state through 10 am... falling moderately at times. This has made for dangerous traveling conditions with sleet and ice on roadways. Motorists should exercise extreme caution while traveling this morning.
Conditions will improve through the morning as temperatures rise throughout the day.

... Moderate coastal flooding expected this afternoon in the western Long Island Sound...
Strong easterly winds are causing tidal departures of 4 to 5 feet above astronomical levels on the western section of the Long Island Sound. As such a coastal Flood Warning is in effect the region until 6 PM.
Flooding of low lying areas... generally those at or below 8 feet mean sea level... will occur with the high tide cycle between 3 and 4 PM.
Residents in flood prone region need to take immediate action to protect life and property.
Tides are expected to approach levels not seen in many years... even decades. Tides will approach... but are expected to remain about a foot below those that occurred on October 31, 1991 - better known as the great Halloween Nor'easter or perfect storm.
In addition... waves of 5 to 10 feet on the sound will cause significant over-washes.
