Flood Warning
Statement as of 9:49 PM EDT on October 11, 2006
The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
western Suffolk County in southeast New York...
* until 1115 PM EDT...
* at 947 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain falling over the warned area. Rainfall rates of 1 to 1
1/2 inches per hour will occur across the warned area... causing
flash flooding.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... Highways... streets and
underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Move
up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas
subject to flooding when water begins rising.

western Suffolk County...
At 1024 PM EDT... trained weather spotters... radar estimates and
local mesonet data all reported very heavy rains... producing flash
flooding over the warned area. Additional moderate to heavy rainfall
will continue across western Suffolk County through 1115 PM... then
diminish.

automobile.
