Long Island Firefighters injured during fire on Stony Brook campus BY OLIVIA WINSLOW Newsday Staff Writer
August 23, 2006, 4:40 PM EDT
Four firefighters were injured today in a blaze at an apartment complex for graduate students at Stony Brook University.
Sixty seven people were evacuated from the Chapin Apartments when the fire was reported around 11:53 a.m., officials said. The fire was declared extinguished at 2:55 p.m. The apartments house grad students, including some families, but none were reported injured.
The fire is considered suspicious, because it may have started in mattresses propped up against the outside of one of the buildings in the Chapin complex, Setauket Fire Department chief Paul DiBiase said.
