Selden H/R with live wires on car 03/08
Selden activated at 1652 with a H/R with live wires and a trapped female in the car. LIPA has given the standard half hour response. The first truck on scene was forced there by PD. At 1928 the power is now shut down and work to remove victim has started. Victim was not trapped and was removed within 2 minutes.
there was a medivac there to at boyle rd c/s rt 25 too
There has to be a better way to get power cut to these scenes. After a out ten minutes in, and the standard LIPA response the chief requested the grid shut down. I don't think that ever happened.

On Wed 3/8/06 around 1650hrs Selen FD was alerted to a signal 16/23 Motor Vehicle Accident with a reported heavy rescue- people trapped within. The location was Rt 25 near Marshall Drive. First arriving units reported that the LIPA power line had fallen and was ontop of the car with live voltage running through it. The occupants in the vehichle were advised not to touch the metal or try to get out of the car. Multiple FD units and several SCPD 6th pct units responded along with Suffolk PD- ESU to try and stabilize the car.
LIPA was requested on a rush to cut the power so the victom could be removed from the car. Within 15 minutes LIPA emergency crews arrived and cut the power grid-which left almost all of selden in the dark. More PD and COPE units were requested to assist with traffic as none of the traffic lights on rt 25 were working.
A Medicvac was also requested as the victom in the car became uncontious. The landing zone was set up in The Marshalls parking lot, Rt 25 and Boyle Rd. As soon as power was cut Selden FD used the hurst tool to remove the doors and free the victom who was transported to StonyBrook hopsital.
Rt 25 was closed both ways for a period of time following the incident and SCPD are investigating how the incident occured.
