The ICS worked very well except for staging and that's only because I got stuck in it. I was stuck on in the east side staging. It was in the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot. I hope the Lake Grove site comes up so I can see what I responded too. We stayed for about 45 minutes and then were released.
Was there a major water problem? From where I was there was only one tower flowing water the whole time. All the other trucks seemed hit and miss. I know they call for the water authority.
The only thing I saw that I would have done different was in staging. I have seen many times trucks come in and park and the staging officer not get a list of capabilities of the trucks they have. A list of just the number of engines and trucks is not enough. I want to know amount of LDH, GMP, amount of tank water, ladder or tower, length of ladder or tower, crew strength. These facts all should play into what assignments are given out. Just because a 1250 GPM engine got there first doesn’t mean it should supply a tower over a 2000GPM engine that got there after them. Same goes for the 75 ft ladder over 100 ft tower. Unless there is limited room then the scenario changes. I just feel trucks in staging should be matched to the assignments. I just want everyone to know I am not bashing Centereach for this. I'm just saying I seen it here and many other calls whether it be a structure, brushfire or whatever. Including my department.
