Direct quote from Radio Shack: "This is an state of the art updated
version replacing the discontinued PRO-92 series. The features were
so popular that we were bombarded by requests to make a scanner that
was like the 92's. Voila. the 97. Yes there are some improvements
as technology has allowed for improved LTR capability, Signal
Stalking, and a much faster scan/search rate than the 92's."

We've been through this. I explained that it's more of a PRO-95
replacement than a handheld PRO-2051...
Some people even thought it was a PRO-92 replacement, but they've
been
discontinued for a while, now...
I see this in the Yahoo Group heading info: "Type acceptance was
received under ADV2000527 on 10/28/04 and is carried under Radio
Shack SKU #20-527. It seems this is a portable version of the
PRO-2051 base/mobile that recently received type acceptance".
The PRO-97 is "mostly" a GRE design with exception of the Signal
Stalker features mentioned in the FCC preliminary O/M and is in
the
same linage as the PRO-92,3,5,6, but the PRO-2051 looks to be a
Uniden OEM with many of the same features as the BCT-8 with a
Uniden
AMWUB331 FCC id. Unless GRE and Uniden have had some co-op
engineering, such as it looks to be on the PRO-94B and PRO-83,
with a
GREse programming style PC/IF one-way (upload only) port that
ScanCat
has written software (ScanCat Lite) for.
The prelim O/M suggests that the Signal Stalker features are
somewhat
different from the Uniden OEM PRO-83 version. Could it be more
related more to Optoelectronics scout in the SS features? I
guess if
you compaired patent numbers perhaps that would shed some light,
but
don't really think the 97 and 2051 are true handheld to
base/mobile
matched set like a PRO-92/2067, PRO-93/2053, or even a PRO-
96/2096.
Uhhh... look at the FIRST THREE POSTS in this group.
Specifically,
the
first and third one. It's already been type accetped by the FCC.
