Flood Watch / Flood Statement
Statement as of 11:33 am EDT on May 24, 2005
... Coastal Flood Watch from 800 PM this evening until 300 am EDT
Wednesday morning...
The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a coastal Flood
Watch.
A series of low pressure systems will remain up to a few hundred
miles southeast of Long Island as a belt of high pressure stretches
from northern New England southwest across the western Great Lakes.
Northeast winds will persist and increase in speed as the first low
tracks northwest. Because a full moon occurred just yesterday...
astronomical tides remain high. In addition... persistent northeast
winds will cause water to pile up along the shores just in time for
tonight's high tides. Widespread minor to moderate tidal flooding
will result around the times of high tides.
Coastal residents in and near the watch area should monitor the
latest forecasts... and be prepared to take action if flooding occurs
or if a coastal Flood Warning is issued. Stay tuned to NOAA all
hazards weather radio and other local media for further updates.
