... Special Weather Statement for heavy showers and gusty winds for
Suffolk County...
At 738 am EST... a strong shower was near Northport... and moving
northeast at 40 to 50 mph.
Damaging winds around 40 to 50 mph are possible with with this
activity.
High Wind Advisory
Statement as of 3:07 am EST on January 14, 2005
... The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued an a Wind
Advisory until noon EST this afternoon...
Winds ahead of a strong cold front will increase to 25 to 35 mph
early this morning... with gusts up to 50 mph possible... mainly in
showers and thunderstorms. The threat for high winds will diminish
late this morning behind the cold front.
Stay tuned to NOAA all hazards radio or visit our web site at
weather.Gov/okx for further details or updates.
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 31
to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of these
magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra precautions.
Motorists in high profile vehicles should use caution until the winds
subside.

Showers will continue to fall through the early morning commute and become heavier and steadier shortly after daybreak. Windy conditions will increase as wind gusts to 50 mph are possible. Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue through the early morning...but these will fall later in the morning as a strong cold front approaches and moves through.
